Abstract

This study investigated the effects of oral administration of hot and cold water on haematological parameters, cardiac markers, and heart histology in adult male rats. Fifteen rats were divided into three groups: normal control, hot water-treated, and cold water-treated. Haematological parameters, cardiac markers, and heart histology were assessed after 21 days of treatment. Results showed significant changes in haematological parameters, including increased packed cell volume and haemoglobin concentration in the hot water-treated group, and decreased white blood cell count in the cold water-treated group. Cardiac markers, such as creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase, were significantly elevated in the hot water-treated group, indicating cardiac damage. Histological examination of the heart tissue revealed inflammatory changes and cardiac muscle damage in the hot water-treated group, while the cold water-treated group showed mild cardiac fibrosis. These findings suggest that oral administration of hot water may have deleterious effects on cardiac function and structure, while cold water may have mild fibrotic effects. This study provides insight into the potential effects of temperature extremes on cardiovascular health and highlights the need for further research in this area.
