EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES FOR PROMOTING INLUSIVE EDUCATION IN A. A RAJI SPECIAL SCHOOL, SOKOTO
Abstract
This study examines effective strategies for promoting inclusive education in A.A. Raji Special School. Inclusive education aims to provide equitable learning opportunities for all learners, including those with disabilities and diverse educational needs, within a supportive and accommodating environment. Despite global advocacy for inclusive practices, many special schools in developing contexts face challenges such as inadequate resources, limited teacher training, infrastructural barriers, and societal attitudes toward disability.
The study adopted a descriptive survey research design to investigate current inclusive practices, identify existing challenges, and propose practical strategies for improvement. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and observation involving teachers, administrators, and selected stakeholders within the school community. The findings revealed that while efforts have been made to implement inclusive policies, gaps remain in teacher preparedness, availability of instructional materials, individualized education planning, and collaborative engagement with parents and external support services.
Based on the findings, the study recommends continuous professional development for teachers, improved funding for assistive technologies and learning materials, curriculum adaptation, strengthened policy implementation, and enhanced community awareness programs. The research concludes that a coordinated and well-supported approach is essential to achieving sustainable inclusive education practices in A.A. Raji Special School, Sokoto. The study contributes to the broader discourse on inclusive education in Nigeria and provides actionable strategies for stakeholders seeking to improve educational outcomes for learners with special needs.
