APPROACHES TO ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT IN NIGERIA: OYO STATE EXAMPLE
Abstract
This study examines approaches to environmental protection and sustainable waste management in Nigeria, using Oyo State as a case example. Environmental degradation and ineffective waste management remain major challenges across Nigerian cities, contributing to pollution, flooding, public health hazards, and declining urban aesthetics. The research explores the strategies adopted by government agencies, private waste operators, community groups, and environmental regulatory bodies in promoting a cleaner and more sustainable environment in Oyo State. It assesses key initiatives such as waste collection systems, recycling programs, environmental sanitation exercises, public awareness campaigns, and policy frameworks guiding environmental management.
