Abstract

This study aims to investigate the influence of laboratory exposure on interest in chemistry in Gwale secondary schools, Kano state. Problems were stated and four (4) research questions guided the study. A sample of 370 students were selected through random sampling techniques from five (5) sampled secondary schools within Nassarawa LGA. A questionnaire was used for data collection. The data collected were analysed using frequency and simple percentage. The result shows that laboratory engagement significantly boosts students' interest in Chemistry, as evidenced by a substantial proportion expressing strong agreement to the positive influence of laboratory exposure on their involvement and passion for the subject; the role of laboratory exposure in shaping students' understanding of Chemistry concepts is crucial, with a noteworthy percentage strongly agreeing and agreeing that laboratory experiments contribute to a more profound comprehension of intricate ideas. Based on the findings of this study, it is therefore recommended that given the substantial proportion of students expressing strong agreement to the positive influence of laboratory exposure on their involvement and passion for Chemistry, it is strongly recommended to incorporate more hands-on laboratory activities in the Chemistry curriculum to boost students' interest to mention but a few
