Abstract

ABSTRACT Domestic wastewater refers to a natural flow of water and it can contain pathogens from agricultural and industrial runoff which can cause health issues through contact or consumption with contaminated water. This study is aimed at investigating the microbial load of d omestic wastewater generated as well as check for the impact of filtration on the bacteria isolates. The water samples were subjected to microbiological analyses before and after exposure to filtration was subjected to different bacteria that was isolated were Bacillus subtilis, Enterobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Lactobacillus mitis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.Filtration have inhibitory effect on bacteria isolated from the domestic wastewater. The bacterial load was reduced after it was expose to filtration and it reduces from 21.0×103cfu/mL to 9.10 ×103cfu/mL. Also fiItration method of waster disinfection eliminate most of the microorganisms isolated from the domestic wastewater. It is therefore recommended that the use of filtation as treatment should be encourage in homes before discharging wastewater to the other water bodies to avoid contamination.
