Abstract

This study examines the challenges of public administration and their implications for achieving efficiency in public service delivery, using the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) as a case study. Public administration in Nigeria faces persistent obstacles such as inadequate funding, bureaucratic bottlenecks, skill gaps among personnel, weak institutional frameworks, and limited adoption of modern technology. Within FAAN, these challenges manifest in operational delays, poor maintenance culture, insufficient staff motivation, and low responsiveness to stakeholders’ needs. The study adopts a descriptive research design, drawing data from both primary and secondary sources to identify the major administrative barriers affecting FAAN’s performance. Findings reveal that structural inefficiencies, limited managerial capacity, and policy inconsistencies significantly hinder FAAN’s ability to deliver efficient and reliable airport services. The study recommends improved capacity building, enhanced funding mechanisms, digital transformation of administrative processes, and stronger accountability frameworks as strategies for improving public service efficiency. Ultimately, addressing these challenges is essential for strengthening Nigeria’s aviation sector and promoting sustainable public service delivery.
