DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A WEB-BASED DATA VENDING SYSTEM
Abstract
This research work titled “Design and Implementation of Web Base Data Vending System” was carried out to address the inefficiencies associated with traditional methods of purchasing mobile data bundles such as USSD codes, scratch cards, and physical vendors. The main objective was to design and implement a secure, user-friendly, and automated platform that enables users to register, fund digital wallets, purchase data bundles in real time, and view transaction history, while providing administrators with tools for managing users, transactions, and services. The study adopted the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) with the waterfall model to guide system development, combining both theoretical and practical approaches. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and literature review to determine user needs and system requirements. The system was implemented using PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL, with UML diagrams and an ER model used for system design. Testing was conducted using functional, usability, performance, security, and compatibility tests, and results showed that the website performed efficiently, delivering real-time data vending, secure wallet funding, and reliable transaction tracking. The system provides significant benefits including improved service delivery, digital entrepreneurship opportunities for resellers, and transparency through an integrated admin dashboard. In conclusion, the study achieved its objectives by creating a scalable, secure, and user-centered data vending website. It is recommended that the system be integrated with live telecom APIs, extended to support services such as airtime, bill payments, and cable TV subscriptions, and deployed on cloud infrastructure for scalability. Furthermore, the development of a mobile application and the incorporation of advanced security measures will enhance its effectiveness.
