EFFECT OF GOOD LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATION IN NATION BUILDING: NIGERIA EXPERIENCE
Abstract
This study examines the effect of good leadership and effective administration on nation building, with specific focus on the Nigerian experience. Leadership remains a critical factor in determining the political stability, economic development, and social cohesion of any nation. In Nigeria, the quality of leadership and administrative practices has significantly influenced national growth trajectories since independence. The research highlights how accountability, transparency, policy consistency, and inclusive governance contribute positively to national development, while corruption, weak institutions, poor policy implementation, and leadership failure hinder progress. Using secondary data from government reports, scholarly articles, and historical analysis, the study evaluates the relationship between leadership practices and key indicators of national development such as economic performance, infrastructural growth, security, and public trust. The findings reveal that nations with strong, visionary, and ethical leadership tend to experience sustainable development, whereas ineffective leadership undermines institutional capacity and national progress. The study concludes that Nigeria’s path to effective nation building requires transformational leadership, strengthened public institutions, citizen participation, and a renewed commitment to good governance. Recommendations are offered for promoting leadership development, administrative reforms, and policy accountability to improve national development outcomes.
