STUDENTS RECEPTION AND TREATMENT OF FAKE INFORMATION ON WHATSAPP PLATFORM IN THE UNIVERSITY OF MAIDUGURI

This study examines the Students' Reception and Treatment of Fake Information On WhatsApp Platform be University Of Maiduguri. The objectives of the study are to identify what students of University of Maiduguri think of fake information, identify the sources of fake information among students of University of Maiduguri, determine media platforms Sstudents receive fake Information; and examine how Students of University of Maiduguri treat fake information Questionnaire was used as the instrument of data collection. 100 students in the University of Maiduguri were sampled. The findings show that the students are aware of the foke information and most of them would rather ignore or delete the information before sharing it to others and the treatment for fake information is by checking the sources, reading beyond the headlines. compare multiple reports to find the facts among many others. This study, therefore recomunendes that students should always confirm the sources of information through the use of verification tools or the use of google, for the government to create an avenue whereby no one can create or spread fake information and there should be a punishment by penalizing blogs or media organization that post fake information no matter the circumstancex
