CREDIT MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIA FINANCIAL SECTOR (A CASE STUDY OF FIRST BANK PLC, ILORIN)

Abstract

The financial services provided by banks is essential to economic and financial development. Their role as financial intermediaries facilitates rapid economic growth. Financial stability is vital for any nation so therefore the financial institutions need to be properly managed. The velocity of loan creation in an economy significantly influences the productive activities in a nation. Banks are financial institutions that are established for lending, borrowing, issuing, exchanging, taking deposits, safeguarding or handling money under the laws and guide lines of a respective country. The study was majorly directed to analyse the impact of credit management and organizational performance in Nigeria financial sector . In addition, it identified certain factors which contribute to the increase in organizational performance. Case study method was used in carrying out the research in which a total population study of 93 copies out of which 75 sample size was reached through Taro Yamane style and 64 copies were filled and returned back to the researcher , hypothesis was tested to guide the study and the responses of this research were numerically quantified, tabulated and analyzed using regression analysis via SPSS application package 2.0. The results of this study revealed that credit monitoring and credit assessment was the major factor that can help to increase the performance of performance in Nigeria financial sector. The findings revealed that the independents variables which are credit monitoring and credit assessment are significant with Dependent variables which is service quality and sales volume. Also, the study recommends that Nigeria financial sector should use the various forms of credit management in order to have a positive effect on the general performance.
