PATIENTS' PERCEPTION OF QUALITY NURSING CARE SERVICES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES TEACHING HOSPITAL COMPLEX, AKURE.
Abstract
Nurses form the largest group of staff providing health services, and they are the main foundation of the healthcare delivery process, promoting quality of care services. Their performance plays a crucial role in advancing organizational goals and increasing the patient's quality of life. Evaluating the quality of nursing care services is very important and patients' perception of quality nursing care services helps to provide a feedback to determine the quality and evaluation of nursing care. The present study aimed to examine patients’ perceptions of quality nursing care services in UNIMEDTHC, Akure. A descriptive research design was used to conduct the study among 77 patients. A validated structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Data obtained were presented in tables and charts and hypothesis was tested using SPSS version 23. Descriptive and inferential statistics was used in analyzing the data. Findings from this study showed that 61% of the patients had a good perception as regarding the psychosocial domain, 83.1% physical domain and 88.3% communication domain of quality nursing care being provided by the nurses. However the psychosocial domain of quality care provided by nurses needs more attention.
