THE IMPACT OF CULTURE IN SHAPING THE ATTITUDE OF PEOPLE TOWARD FEMALE HEADED HOUSEHOLD IN GOMBE METROPOLIS

Abstract Women empowerment is a crucial driver of sustainable community development, particularly in developing regions. This study examines the effects of women empowerment on community development in Gombe Local Government of Gombe State. The research focuses on three key dimensions: economic empowerment, educational achievements, and social and political participation. A mixed-method approach, combining surveys, interviews, and secondary data analysis, was employed to gather information from women, community leaders, and policymakers. The findings reveal that women’s economic empowerment significantly contributes to local economic growth by increasing household incomes, fostering entrepreneurship, and reducing poverty. Additionally, women’s educational achievements have a positive impact on community development, as educated women are more likely to invest in healthcare, child welfare, and social initiatives. Furthermore, the study highlights that women’s participation in social and political activities enhances community cohesion, fosters inclusive decision-making, and strengthens governance structures. Despite these positive impacts, the study identifies several challenges, including cultural and religious barriers, gender discrimination, and limited access to financial resources, which hinder women’s full empowerment. The study recommends targeted policies to improve women’s access to education, economic opportunities, and leadership roles. Strengthening legal frameworks, providing financial support, and promoting awareness campaigns are also suggested as strategies to enhance women’s empowerment for sustainable community development. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on gender and development, offering valuable insights for policymakers, development organizations, and stakeholders committed to achieving gender equality and community progress.
