EFFECT OF POLYPHENOL-RICH LEAD EXTRACT OF MORINGA OLEIFERA ON SERUM LIPID PROFILE IN CARBON TETRACHLORIDE-INDUCED RATS.
Abstract
The aim of this research was to determine the effect of polyphenol rich extract of Moringa
oleifera (PRE-M.o) on lipid profile of rats exposed to CCL4 intoxication. 36 male albino rats
weighing 80-100g were divided into 6 groups (n=6), the animals were treated as fellow;
Group 1 (positive control) received 1ml of distilled water plus 1.5 ml/kg olive oil i.p on the
day 7. Group 2 (Negative control) received 1ml of distilled H20 orally and 1.5ml/kg CCL4 in
olive oil i.p on day 7, Group 3 (Standard Drug) received 100mg/kg N- acetylcysteine (NAC)
daily +1.5ml/kg CCL4 in olive oil i.p on day 7, while groups 4, 5 and 6 received 50mg/kg,
100mg/kg, 250mg/kg of (PRE-M.o) respectively daily +1.5ml/kg 50% CCL4 in olive oil i.p
on day 7. On the 7th day all the animals were fasted overnight, after which blood sample
were collected through ocular puncture and animals were then sacrificed for collection of
organs and subsequent homogenization for further biochemical analysis. Antihyperlipidemic
activity of the extract was examined by measuring Total cholesterol, HDL- cholesterol and
Triglycerides, while antioxidant activity of the extract was measured using Total phenol,
Total Flavonoid, DPPH scavenging, MDA, SOD and GSH concentrations. Result shows that
PRE-M.o caused a significant (p
