PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING AND ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF PSIDIUM GUAJAVA ETHANOLIC EXTRACT AGAINST SELECTED BACTERIAL ISOLATE FROM STOOL SAMPLES
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigate the phytochemical composition and antibacterial activity of Psidium
guajava ethanolic extract against Salmonella typhi and Escherichia coli isolated from stool
samples. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids,
phenolics, and tannins. The extract exhibited significant antibacterial activity, with MIC
values of 25 mg/mL and 25 mg/mL against Salmonella typhi and Escherichia coli,
respectively. The findings suggest that Psidium guajava ethanolic extract has potential as
a natural antimicrobial agent against gastrointestinal pathogens.
