SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM AS A TOOL FOR INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP AMONG MASS COMMUNICATION STUDENTS IN DELTA STATE POLYTECHNIC, OGWASHI-UKU
Abstract
This study examined social media platforms as a tool for interpersonal relationship among undergraduate students, a study of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Mass Communication Students. The study was set to address three objectives in this study. A survey research method was adopted, the population comprised of all students of mass communication department, delta state polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku., Delta state. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 346 respondents for the study and the questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The data was presented in frequency table and calculated percentage. Relevant literature were used which guided the objectives and methodology of this study. The findings revealed among others that the prevalence of social media usage among undergraduate students of mass communication was high, that there is a positive influence of social media on interpersonal relationship among students of mass communication and that there are positive effects of mass communication and that there are positive effects of social media usage on the interpersonal relationship of students of mass communication. It was therefore recommended by the study that government at all levels should encourage the positive use of social media among students.
