Abstract

Abstract This study explored the drivers and barriers to the implementation of circular economy within the construction sector in Anambra State. Three research questions guided the study and three null hypotheses were formulated. The design to be adopted for this study is descriptive survey. The population of this study comprised 157 construction professionals in relevant professional bodies in Awka, Anambra State. The entire population size of 157 construction professionals formed the sample size for the study. Data for this study were collected by means of structured questionnaire developed by the researcher. The questionnaire is titled “Questionnaire on Drivers and Barriers to the Implementation of Circular Economy”. Descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages will be employed to analyze the bio-data of the respondents while mean score and standard deviation will be used to analyze the data to answer the research questions. In testing the null hypotheses, Analysis of Variance will be used to determine the significant difference. The study found that construction professionals agreed on the drivers and barriers to the implementation of circular economy within the construction sector in Anambra State. The findings also revealed that construction professionals agreed on having adequate knowledge regarding circular economy concepts. Based on the findings, it was recommended that the Anambra State government should launch awareness campaigns, training programs, and workshops to enhance the understanding of circular economy concepts among construction professionals, policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders.
