Abstract

Title: EVALUATION OF HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAPHY FINDINGS AMONG PATIENTS PRESENTING WITH INFERTILITY AT FEDERAL NEURO-PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL, MAIDUGURI, BORNO STATE Objective: To determine the pattern of hysterosalpingography findings in patients presenting with infertility, to categorized these findings according to age, and type of infertility Material and Method: A retrospective cross-sectional review of 145 women were investigated for infertility between January 2023 to December 2023. A convenient sampling technique was used descriptive statistics was used percentage and frequencies, using statistical package for social sciences version20. Results The comprehensive analysis of 145 patient request cards and report sheets under review revealed a nuanced distribution of findings. Among these cases, a noteworthy 52.4% (75 cases) exhibited normal findings, while 36.3% (52 cases) were classified as presenting tubal pathologies. Additionally, a subset of 6.8% (10 cases) was attributed to uterine pathologies. These categorizations illuminate the diverse spectrum of conditions observed within the studied population. Furthermore, the examination uncovered further nuances within the dataset. Specifically, 4.2% of cases (6 instances) were found to be indicative of multiple myoma, while 1.3% (2 cases) were associated with cervical adhesions, thus offering valuable insights into the prevalence of these specific pathologies within the cohort. xvi Notably, the age distribution within the study yielded intriguing observations. The age range of 20-30 years stood out with a substantial frequency of 98 cases, reflecting the prevalent nature of reproductive health issues within this age group. In contrast, the age group of 40-49 years exhibited the lowest frequency, comprising a mere 2.7% of the total cases, equivalent to 4 cases in this demographic, thereby underscoring the different prevalence patterns across distinct age ranges. However, 55 were investigated with primary infertility while 90 were investigated with secondary infertility.
