Abstract

Bamboo is an increasingly popular sustainable construction material due to its rapid growth, strength, and environmental benefits. However, its mechanical properties, particularly compressive strength, are influenced by moisture content, which presents a challenge for its widespread structural application. This study investigates the effect of varying moisture content on the compressive strength of bamboo. Samples were prepared, seasoned, and tested at different moisture levels to assess their compressive behavior.The results show a strong negative correlation between moisture content and compressive strength. As moisture content decreases, compressive strength increases, indicating that controlled drying significantly enhances bamboo's load-bearing capacity. Additionally, variations in bamboo fiber structure contributed to differing mechanical properties, even at similar moisture levels.This research provides critical insights into the relationship between moisture content and compressive strength, offering valuable data for the development of safer and more efficient bamboo-based structures. It also highlights the importance of proper seasoning and moisture control in optimizing bamboo's structural performance.
