THE EFFECTS OF TOPICAL ANAESTHETIC (PROPARACAINE HYDROCHLORIDE OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION, USP 0.5%) ON VISUAL ACUITY AND INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE.
Abstract
The aim of the study was to determine the Effects of Topical Anaesthetic (Proparacaine
Hydrochloride Ophthalmic Solution, USP 0.5%) on Visual Acuity and Intraocular Pressure. A
total number of 97subjects within the age range of 18 to 35 years with mean age of 25.8 years
and standard deviation of 0.96 were used. They were made up of 57 males and 40 females. With
approval of ethical clearance, the subjects visual acuities were measured with logMAR chart
while their intraocular pressures were measured with Schiotz tonometer. Results showed no
statistical significant effect of topical anaesthetic (Proparacaine Hydrochloride Ophthalmic
Solution, USP 0.5%) on visual acuity and intraocular pressure of the subjects. Also Topical
Anaesthetic has no effect on sex and age.
