CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF QUOTED MANUFACTURING COMMPANIES IN NIGERIA (A STUDY OF NESTLE PLC)

ABSTRACT This study examines the relationship between corporate social responsibility and financial performance of quoted companies in Nigeria (a study of Nestle Plc). The study made use of ex-post facto research design. Data was collected from the annual reports of Nestle Plc covering a period of 1999-2024. Corporate social responsibility was measured usin,g the donations, competitive advantage and employee satisfaction made by the company while financial performance was measured using return on equity. Data were analysed using simple linear regression analysis and correlation, with the aid of Statistical package for social science. It was found out donation to community has a positive impact and significant effect on return on equity, competitive advantage is positive and insignificant but does not influence the return on equity, employee satisfaction is positive but has a very weak relationship on with the variable (return on equity). It was recommended that Nigeria corporate organizations need to establish social responsibility unit to ensure that organization responsive to social responsibility is in accordance with international best practice, also government needs to establish agency that will monitor the social responsibility of corporate organizations, in order to oversee the compliance of corporate social responsibility policies and prosecute organizations that are socially irresponsible
