Abstract

ABSTRACT This study analyzed indigenous poultry farming practices in Dambo'a LGA, Borno State.A multistage sampling technique was used to select 60 indigenous poultry farmers from the study area, and data were collected using structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and market. The results showed that the majority ( ?) of the farmers were young adults, with a higher representation of females (66.7%). Most (66.7,%) of the respondents were married and (33.3%) had primary or no formal education (58.3%). Poultry farming was the primary occupation for half (? ) of the respondents, and (? ) relied on traditional practices for breeding, feeding, housing, and disease management. The profitability analysis revealed that poultry farming contributed significantly to the farmers’ income, with 33.3% earning between ₦10,000 and ₦20,000 in profit per month. Major challenges faced by farmers included price volatility, disease outbreaks, and limited access to resources such as feed and veterinary services. It was recommended that policies should be implemented to support access to affordable feed, veterinary care, and financial resources, while farmers should be encouraged to adopt modern poultry farming techniques to improve productivity and sustainability.
