EFFECT OF CASH FLOW ON COST AND SCHEDULE PERFORMANCE OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECT IN ABUJA
Abstract
Cash flow is a critical factor influencing the successful delivery of construction projects, particularly in developing economies where financial constraints are common. This study examines the effect of cash flow on the cost and schedule performance of construction projects in Abuja, Nigeria. The research adopts a descriptive survey design, utilizing primary data collected through structured questionnaires administered to contractors, project managers, consultants, and site engineers involved in construction projects within the study area. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and relevant inferential tools to determine the relationship between cash flow, project cost, and schedule performance. Findings from the study reveal that inadequate cash flow significantly contributes to cost overruns and project delays, affecting overall project performance. The study concludes that effective cash flow management is essential for improving cost control and timely completion of construction projects. It therefore recommends timely payment to contractors, proper financial planning, and improved financial monitoring mechanisms to enhance construction project performance in Abuja.
