Abstract

This study is intended to assess gender difference and academic performance of students in physics. The population of the study constitutes the whole senior secondary school science students in Dala Local Government Area, Kano State. A sample random technique was used to collect the data. Data was collected using results of last five years of WASSCE and NECO examinations. The research methodology adopted is ex-post facto research of co-relational. Research questions one and two were analyzed using descriptive statistics while the hypothesis of the study was tested statistically using t-test. The statistical analysis shows that the male students outperformed the female students. On the basis of the finding, the study recommended that female students should be highly engaged and motivated to excel in physics and other science discipline to conveniently compete with their male counterparts.
