Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper presents the design and implementation of an affordable, localized home automation system aimed at overcoming the cost barriers of commercial solutions. The system's architecture is centered on an Arduino UNO microcontroller, which acts as the central control unit. Wireless command and control are facilitated by an HC-05 Bluetooth module, establishing a secure link with a user's Android smartphone, while a 4-channel relay module provides a safe, isolated interface for switching high-voltage household appliances. The operational logic involves the Arduino receiving character-based commands via Bluetooth and actuating the corresponding relay. The successfully constructed prototype was rigorously tested, confirming its ability to reliably and independently manage four separate devices. Performance validation demonstrated excellent system responsiveness with near-instantaneous command execution and an operational range consistent with the requirements of a domestic environment. Ultimately, this work validates that a practical, secure, and user-friendly smart home solution can be realized using low-cost, open-source technology, providing an accessible entry point into the field of domotics and a solid foundation for future enhancements.
