ASSESSMENT OF PAVEMENT CONDITION: A CASE STUDY OF ROAD PAVEMENT FROM KPAKUNGU ROUNDABOUT TO SHIRORO ROUNDABOUT, MINNA, NIGER STATE
Abstract
Pavement Condition Index (PCI) determines a pavement's health and durability. Regular evaluation and monitoring of the condition of the roads are necessary to guarantee their safety and effectiveness. This project aims to assess the pavement condition of the road from Kpakungu roundabout to Shiroro roundabout, Minna using the ASTM D6433-07, to determine the severity of any defects or deterioration and to provide an effective maintenance or rehabilitation plan. The project involved the visual inspection of the given road section to collect data on the condition of the pavement, all surveys were conducted following the ASTM D633-07 standard. The results of the pavement evaluation showed the surveyed pavement section inspected was found to have a PCI range of 23-69, with most of the road segment being in fair condition, 12.3% in good condition, and 19% in poor and very poor condition. It was concluded that urgent attention was needed to avoid further deterioration of the pavement.
