Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the efficacy of DeepBrain AI in enhancing the teaching of practical biology in senior secondary schools within Gwale Local Government Area, Kano State, Nigeria. Amid persistent challenges such as inadequate laboratory resources, limited access to modern teaching tools, and shortages of skilled educators, the integration of AI-driven educational technologies offers a promising alternative to traditional instruction. DeepBrain AI, known for its interactive simulations, realistic AI avatars, and personalized feedback capabilities, was evaluated for its impact on conceptual understanding, practical skill development, academic achievement, and gender inclusivity in biology education. A quasi experimental design was employed, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire and an observation checklist administered to 395 biology teachers from selected public secondary schools. Data analysis revealed that teachers perceived DeepBrain AI as significantly enhancing students’ grasp of complex biological concepts, offering effective laboratory simulations, and fostering improved academic performance. Moreover, the findings indicated that the AI tool promotes equitable learning outcomes across genders, contributing to a more inclusive educational environment. The study highlights the potential of AI-powered platforms in bridging practical learning gaps while emphasizing the need for investment in digital infrastructure, teacher capacity-building, and strategic policy implementation. Recommendations include the integration of AI tools into the biology curriculum, expanding access to digital resources, and fostering public-private partnerships to enhance the sustainability of AI-driven education in Nigeria.
