IMPACT OF RADIO IN PROMOTING CHILD EDUCATION IN OFFA LOCAL GOVERNMENT (CASE STUDY OF TNT AND OKIN FM OFFA LOCAL GOVERNMENT)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the impact of radio as an educational tool for children in Offa Local Government, focusing on TNT 102.5 FM and Okin 105.7 FM. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research incorporates quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to assess how radio programming influences child education. The population comprised 118 individuals from 21 households in three selected communities: Bintinlaye, Orita-Merin, and Owode. Data analysis reveals that radio significantly enhances literacy and numeracy skills, with interactive educational content fostering engagement among children. However, challenges such as inconsistent signal quality and limited integration with formal education were identified. The findings underscore the potential of radio to bridge educational gaps, particularly in underserved areas. Recommendations for enhancing collaboration between radio stations and educational institutions, improving broadcasting infrastructure, and developing culturally relevant programming are proposed. This research contributes to the understanding of radio's role in promoting child education and offers insights for policymakers and educators seeking innovative approaches to learning in the digital age.
