PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING AND PROXIMATE ANALYSIS OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACT OF CARROT (DAUCUS CAROTA) LEAVES

ABSTRACT
The study evaluates the phytochemicals and proximate composition of Daucus carota leaves, which belong to the family Apiaceae under the genus Daucus.
Phytochemical screening was conducted using standard chemical methods, while proximate analysis was performed following the AOAC method (2005). The results of the phytochemical screening revealed the presence of phenolic compounds, flavonoids, cardiac glycosides, tannins, and terpenoids, while saponins were not detected.
The proximate analysis of Daucus carota leaves showed a high carbohydrate content of 76.46%.
The fiber content was 9.34%, ash content 5.95%, moisture content 4.98%, protein content
2.63%, and fat content 0.64%.
In conclusion, the presence of phytochemicals in Daucus carota leaves, along with their proximate composition, suggests their potential medicinal and nutritional benefits.
