PHYTOCHEMICAL COMPOSITION, ANTIOXIDANT AND ANTIPYRETICS PROPERTIES OF BRYOPHYLLUM PINNATUM AND PEPEROMIA PELLUCIDA, AND THEIR EFFECT ON THE INTESTINAL FLORA OF WISTAR RAT
Abstract
Peperomia pellucida and Bryophyllum pinnatum, two plants with vast traditional and medicinal applications, were assessed for their multifaceted properties and gut-modulating effects. Phytochemical screening revealed a rich array of bioactive compounds, while proximate analysis showed significant nutritional value. Both plants exhibited potent antioxidant and antipyretic activities, accompanied by a diverse elemental composition. Notably, they modulated the gut microbiota in Wistar rats, enhancing beneficial bacteria populations. This comprehensive study highlights the potential of Peperomia pellucida and Bryophyllum pinnatum as functional foods and natural remedies for managing diabetes and promoting gut health, warranting further research to unlock their therapeutic applications.
