Abstract

Abstract The study aimed to examine how activity-based teaching strategies can improve secondary school students' comprehension of photosynthesis. The research design for the study is an experimental research design. The population for this research comprised all the SS2 Biology students in Gwale local government of Kano state which are 11,616 students and the sample size was 378. The instrument used in obtaining the relevant data of this research project was achievement test adapt by researchers on related topic in order to measure the activity based approach and students’ mastery in teaching photosynthesis. The collected data was analyzed using achievement test using mean and standard deviation, and the interpretation was presented in simple language for easy understanding. The findings of the study shows that, activity based approach learning strategy has positive effects on the academic performance of Biology students in learning Photosynthesis among secondary school. The conclusion of the study shows that, the study reveals a notable difference between these modern teaching methods and conventional lecture-based approaches, with the former showing greater effectiveness in enhancing students' understanding. The study recommended that, Educators should implement mastery-based methods that allow students to fully grasp foundational concepts before progressing to more advanced topics, ensuring better retention and understanding.
