Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigated the impact of teacher gender on teaching the concept of reproduction in biology among secondary school students in Nassarawa Local Government Area, Kano. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining surveys and questionnaires distributed to 370 students. The results show that teacher gender significantly influences student engagement, motivation, and understanding of reproductive biology. Female teachers were found to create a more conducive learning environment, particularly for female students, while male teachers were more effective in promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The study highlights the need for teacher training programmes that address gender and diversity issues, and for policymakers to consider teacher gender when assigning teachers to biology classes.
