Abstract

ABSTRACT The study examined entrepreneurial behavior and motivation strategies for firm sustainability. Four research questions and two hypotheses were answered and tested A descriptive survey research design was used. The population of this study comprised SMEs in Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun State Nigeria. A total of 150 SMEs was selected from Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun State Nigeria. Purposive sampling technique was adopted for the selection of the sample size. Researcher developed instrument tagged: Entrepreneurial Behavior. Motivation Strategies and Firm Sustainability Questionnaire (EBMSFSO) was used for data collection. Research questions 1 and 2 were analysis using mean and standard deviation. Research questions 3 and 4 were answered using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). Hypotheses were tested using multiple regression analysis. The findings of the study revealed that there was medium level of entrepreneurial behavior among SMEs examined. It was also indicated that sales promotion, maintain competitive prices, team working, promotion of staff as at when due and advertising of products and services were among motivation strategies for firm sustainability. There was positive relationship between entrepreneurial behavior and firm sustainability. There was positive relationship between motivation strategies and firm sustainability. Tes on firm sustainability; R = 0.119, p < .05. The Table further indicated {11.4% (Adj. R? = 0.114)} that about 12% of the variance in firm sustainability was accounted for by the linear combination of the independent variables.
