PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF BLACK PALM KERNEL OIL (UDE AKI) ON HAEMOLOGICAL AND LIPID PROFILE AGAINST CARBON TETRACHLORIDE INDUCED TOXICITY IN MALE WISTAR RAT.
Abstract
Abstract
This present study, examined the effects of Palm Kernel Oil on body weight, Haematological parameters and lipid profile in male Wistar rats. The experimental male rats were randomly grouped into 5 groups and treated as follows; Group 1 served as the normal control, while Groups 2 as the negative control, 3, 4 and 5 were treated orally with 2, 4 and 6 mL/kg of palm kernel oil respectively for 14 days. On the 15th day the rats were intraperitoneally injected with 1-=] mL/kg CCL4. On the 15th day, the rats were humanely sacrificed; blood and organs (liver, kidney, heart, lungs, spleen and testis) were collected. The result for haematology on male wistar rats pre-treated group with palm kernel oil before administering CCL4 demonstrated no significant (P>0.05) difference in the parameter RBC compared to the negative control. However, there was a significant (P0.05) difference in the pre-treated group compared to the negative control. Results observed. For the parameter Neutrophils there was a significant (P0.05) difference for the 2mL/kg pre-treated group for the parameter cholesterol compared to the negative control. Results revealed that the pre-treated groups 4m/kg and 6mL/kg showed no significant (P>0.05) difference in levels of the parameter; HDL compared to the negative control group. The result for TAG and LDL showed no significant (P
