DIGITAL FORENSIC ACCOUNTING TECHNIQUES AND FRAUD PREVENTION IN THE BANKING SECTOR IN NIGERIA
Abstract
The study investigated the effect of digital forensic accounting techniques on fraud prevention in Nigeria’s banking sector. Specifically, the study examined the influence of commercial data mining techniques, ratio analysis techniques, and trend analysis techniques on fraud prevention among deposit money banks in Nigeria. The study adopted a survey research design using structured questionnaires administered to forensic accountants, auditors, and IT specialists in selected banks. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). Findings revealed that ratio analysis and trend analysis techniques significantly improve fraud prevention, while commercial data mining techniques showed a positive but insignificant effect. The study concluded that digital forensic accounting techniques enhance fraud prevention and strengthen financial integrity in Nigerian banks. The study recommended intensified transaction monitoring, improved analytical frameworks, and adoption of advanced forensic technologies for effective fraud prevention.
