INSPIRATION FM RADIO PROGRAMME “AGRICULTURE AND YOU” AND AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT (A SURVEY OF FARMERS IN IBESIKPO ASUTAN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA)

ABSTRACT This study was on Inspiration Fm Radio Programme “Agriculture and You “And Agricultural Development (A Survey of Farmers in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area)”. The work sought to find out if farmers in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA are exposed to “Agriculture and You” programme; to know the factors that appeals to farmers in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA when listening to “Agriculture and You” programme; to find out the effectiveness of Inspiration Radio programme “Agriculture and You” programme on farmers in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA and to know the influence of Inspiration Radio programme “Agriculture and You” programme on farmers in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA. The survey method was used in the study while cluster sampling technique was adopted in the selection of a sample from the population. A sample of 380 was used for the study with questionnaire as the research instrument. Findings revealed that farmers in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA are exposed to “Agriculture and You” programme; the factors that appeals respondents when listening to “Agriculture and You” programme is the ability to carry its audience along, consistency in its presentation and the topic discussed; Inspiration Radio programme “Agriculture and You” programme influence Farmers in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA to a great extent and “Agriculture and You programme” is a good source of information, education and enlightenment to farmers in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA. Based on the findings, the study recommended that farmers should spend more time listening to “Agriculture and You programme” as it helps in informing, educating and entertaining the masses and producer of “Agriculture and You programme” should be more creative by bringing up features that would interest the public.
