SEXIST PROJECTIONS AND FEMALE OPPRESSION IN AISHA ABDULKAREEM'S YAR FARI AND OKEY NDIBE'S FOREIGN GODS.

ABSTRACT This study delves into the nuanced exploration of sexism, gender asymmetry and female oppression within contemporary Nigerian literature through an analysis of Aisha Abdulkareem's Yar Fari and Okey Ndibe's Foreign Gods. Through a meticulous examination of linguistic expressions, thematic representations, and character dynamics, the study aims to uncover the subtle yet pervasive manifestations of gender inequality and power imbalances within these literary works. By focusing on the language used by male characters to construct gender norms and reinforce patriarchal ideologies, as well as the experiences of female characters within the societal contexts depicted in the novels, the study shed light on the complexities of gender dynamics in Nigerian society. Rooted in the Feminist Critical Discourse Analysis (FCDA) framework, this study employs a critical lens to unravel the ways in which language use reflects and perpetuates gender inequalities within the selected literary texts. Through this theoretical framework, the study endeavors to illuminate the ways in which sexism and female oppression are articulated and contested within the narratives of "Yar Fari" and "Foreign Gods," offering insights into the broader socio-political implications of gender representation in Nigerian literature.
