HAEMATOLOGY AND PROXIMATE ANALYSIS OF TILAPIA ZILLI
Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine haematology and proximate analysis of Tilapia zilli from Oyun Lake. Haematological components have been developed for evaluation of fish health conditions. As a matter of fact, blood serves as the most convenient indicator of the general condition of the animal body. Parameters proximate composition which includes protein, fiber, ash, fat, moisture content and carbohydrate were estimated. The average moisture content for Tilapia zilli was in range of 08% to 20%. Results revealed that packed cell volume (PCV) of Tilapia zilli values ranged from 08% to 20%. The monthly mean red blood cells (RBC) of Tilapia zilli (Fish) values ranged from 1.3x1012/L to 3.3 x1012/L. The observed results are lower than 135.08 ± 10.55 to 367.42 ± 94.88 x 103 cells/mm3. The protein content of the fish is 12.4%, fiber contain 0.7%, fat contain 10.2%, ash contain, 2%, carbohydrate contain 11.9 and moisture content contain 62.8%. The proximate result shows that, protein content of the fish is 12.4%, fiber contain 0.7%, fat contain 10.2%, ash contain, 2%, carbohydrate contain 11.9 and moisture content contain 62.8%. Fish provide varying nutritional qualities based on the species or seasons. It's however, important to note that the varying seasons dictate the water quality parameters of the fish’s habitat. It was concluded that the study indicated that there was an alteration in Tilapia zilli (Fish) blood which may cause biochemical dysfunction in this species. In addition, results provided evidence that haematological parameters can be sensitive indicator of aquatic pollution.
