DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A FOUR BEDROOM FLAT ( A CASE STUDY OF A RESIDENTIAL BUILDING AT UGUWA UKU YAN AWAKI ROAD OPPOSITE PASS MARK INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL KANO STATE NIGERIA)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Housing plays a vital role in human comfort and organizational development. This
project is centered on the design and construction planning of a four-bedroom senior staff
quarters with facilities, aimed at providing adequate and quality residential
accommodation for senior personnel. The study examines the architectural and structural
requirements necessary for the development of a functional, safe, and aesthetically
pleasing housing unit. Relevant literature on housing standards, building materials, and
construction techniques were reviewed to establish a solid technical foundation for the
project. A design-based research approach was adopted, utilizing tools such as AutoCAD
and SketchUp for the preparation of detailed architectural drawings and 3D visualization.
The project also presents a simulated construction methodology, material specifications,
and a preliminary bill of quantities to determine cost feasibility. The final design
produced demonstrates effective space planning, environmental compatibility, and
adherence to the Nigerian Building Code. The outcome of this study serves as a practical
guide for the construction of similar residential buildings and contributes to improved
housing delivery for staff welfare in Nigeria.
