Abstract

ABSTRACT This project assessed the effect of climate change on occupant’s satisfaction with thermal performance of residential buildings in Ede with a view to enhancing the occupants’ satisfaction in the built environment. This study aims at identifying the climate factors influencing thermal performance of residential buildings in the study area. Qualitative survey and questionnaire as instruments for gathering relevant data from building occupants in the study area and relevant data were analyzed using Relative Important Index (RII) with descriptive statistics adopted. A random sampling technique was used in choosing the sample size for the study. It was revealed that position of sunrise and sunset, provision of courtyard and available water fountain among others are effect of inadequate ventilation on occupant’s health and their resulting effect on the various measures that are applied to gauge productivity of selected buildings. However, interest shown by academics and practitioners on the thermal performance, the function has become more important in the public establishment and the role of thermal performance has grown into a much more prominent purpose in the state. Different thermal performance regulations strategies that could be adopted to retain and continuously keep facilities in a safe and good working condition. The study concluded that ensuring occupants satisfaction in residential building is bedrock of infrastructural and facility development which should not be taken with levity. The study recommends that owners of a building should give priority to thermal comfort of buildings which is one of the most important requirements that building designers must address in order to ensure the quality of the indoor environment to avoid unforeseen hazard to the occupants.
