COMMUNICATION AND EMPLOYEE EFFECTIVENESS IN FOUNDATION POLYTECHNIC, IKOT IDEM, IKOT EKPENE, AKWA IBOM STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of communication on employee effectiveness in Foundation Polytechnic, Ikot Idem, Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. The study was grounded on the Expectancy Theory and the Communication Accommodation Theory. The Survey research design was adopted for the study, while the Census Method was adopted for the study. Data for the study were generated using the questionnaire structured in four-point scale. The descriptive and simple percentages analyses methods were used to analyse data, while the study hypotheses were tested using Chi-Square Goodness of Fit Test statistical tool. Findings from the study revealed that though there exist a significant relationship between communication and employee effectiveness, the management of Foundation Polytechnic, Ikot Idem, Ikot Ekpene has not been effective in achieving employee effectiveness through communication, due to ineffective communication strategies prevalent in the institution. Therefore, the study recommends that management of the institution should improve both formal and informal communication structures, invest in communication training, and ensure feedback mechanisms are put in place to enhance employee performance, job satisfaction, and overall operational efficiency in the institution.
