INFLUENCE OF LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ON STUDENTS' ACADEMIC EFFECTIVENESS IN UNIVERSITIES IN IBADAN METROPOLIS
Abstract
This study examines the influence of Learning Management Systems (LMS) on students’
academic effectiveness in two Nigerian universities—Lead City University and the University of
Ibadan. With the increasing integration of technology into higher education, Learning
Management System platforms have become essential tools for teaching, learning, and academic
communication.
The research employed a descriptive survey design and utilised structured questionnaires to
collect data from a sample of students selected through simple random sampling techniques. The
study examined key indicators of academic effectiveness such as student engagement,
motivation, access to learning materials, and academic performance. Data were analysed using
descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that LMS usage significantly
enhances students' academic effectiveness by providing flexibility, improving access to
resources, and fostering self-directed learning. However, challenges such as technical issues and
inconsistent usage were also identified. The study recommends improved infrastructure, training,
and policy implementation to maximise the benefits of LMS in Nigerian higher education
institutions.
