AN ASSESSMENT OF E-LEARNING ON THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF ECONOMICS
Abstract
This study investigates the impact of e-learning on the teaching and learning of Economics in Nigerian secondary schools and tertiary institutions. The research explores how digital technologies, online instructional platforms, and virtual learning environments have influenced students’ understanding and teachers’ instructional delivery in Economics. The study adopted a descriptive survey design, and data were collected from teachers and students using structured questionnaires. Findings revealed that e-learning enhances access to instructional materials, promotes independent learning, and improves students’ academic performance when effectively implemented. However, challenges such as poor internet connectivity, inadequate ICT facilities, and limited technical skills among teachers hinder its effectiveness. The study concludes that while e-learning has great potential to transform Economics education, adequate training, reliable internet access, and institutional support are necessary for optimal results. It is recommended that government and educational stakeholders invest more in ICT infrastructure, continuous teacher training, and digital resource development to strengthen e-learning integration in Economics teaching and learning.
