Abstract

ABSTRACT The construction industry is key to the provision of infrastructural development. However, the health and safety risks inherent in the process of construction is enormous that requires the attention of every construction practitioner. Thus, the study aimed to assessing the health and safety components cost of construction project. The study utilized the quantitative methodology. The sampling technique used for the study is the simple probability random sampling. Closed ended questionnaire were used for data collection. A total number of 115 structured questionnaires were self-administered to the respondents, however only 72 were properly filled and use for the analysis. The study found that the most prevalent component influencing the cost of health and safety is worker compensation insurance with a mean score item of 4.68. Therefore, the study recommend that stakeholders in the construction industry should establish a construction insurance deposit scheme to reduce worker compensation.
