INCENTIVE SYSTEM AND EMPLOYEE COMMITMENT (A STUDY OF BENIN ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION COMPANY, BENIN CITY)
Abstract
The importance of incentive system as a catalyst for organizational growth and productivity has been well acknowledged however, most organization has been neglecting findings. It is difficult to administer incentive program for their employee thereby leading to high employee turnover, high rate of absenteeism, low productivity etc this study therefore sought to determine the incentive system and employees commitment in Benin electricity Distribution Company, Benin branch. The specific objective of this study includes the salaries, wages, promotion, cash bonuses, medicare on employee commitment. The study adopted the cross sectional survey research design, which is descriptive in nature. The populations of the study were the employees of BEDC, Benin branch which totaled hundred (100) employees an out of which totaled hundred
(100) employees and out of which a sample of 80 respondents was drawn using the Yaro Yamen sampling technique. The primary data was collected were analyzed using chi – square method; the finding are as follows; there is a positive relationship between wages and salaries, promotion, cash bonuses and medicare correlates positively to the commitment of employees, the study finally recommend that managers should increase the levels of performance incentive given to employees.
