A STUDY OF THE IMPACTS OF TECHNOLOGY APPLICATION ON INFORMATION SERVICES DELIVERY IN ACADEMIC LIBRARIES (A CASE OF FEDERAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION TECHNICAL LIBRARY ASABA)

This study focused on the impacts of technology application on information services delivery in academic libraries (a case of federal college of education technical library asaba) The working group consisted of 20 professionals and para professional librarian in the federal college of education technical Asaba. in Delta State. The data were collected through a survey questionnaire. In data analysis, frequency distributions table and percentages where used. According to the results, it was revealed after data analysis and interpretation that there are some level of technological inputs, tools and equipment in the Federal College of education under study. The study also showed that computers were mostly used in addition to internet, Photocopier scanners, printers, inverter cooling system, Public access Catalogue Terminals and Projectors. The least used technology were Electronic Book cart/ Trolley, intercom, audio disc player and Online Book Publishing. The study also revealed that technology has made the work of Librarians easy in meeting users need quickly and has also speed up the process of cataloguing and classification of library materials. Recommendation made include the following among others that College libraries should be equipped with more technological inputs and tools that can adequately aid the Librarians in the discharge of their responsibilities to library users. Librarians should endeavour to make good use of Electronic Book cart/ Trolley, intercom, audio disc player and Online Book Publishing. Institution Librarians should personally utilize a large number of self-improvement training facilities online.
