IMPACT OF BOKO HARAM INSURGENCY AND HEALTHCARE SERVICE DELIVERY IN JERE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, BORNO STATE
Abstract
This study examines the impact of Boko Haram insurgency on healthcare service delivery in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State. The research investigates how insurgency affects accessibility, quality, and utilization of healthcare services. A total of 400 questionnaires were administered, out of which 320 were duly completed and returned. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical tools. Findings revealed that Boko Haram insurgency significantly affects healthcare delivery by destroying health facilities, reducing the availability of trained personnel, disrupting essential services such as antenatal care and immunization, and limiting the movement of both patients and healthcare workers. The study further identified poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, and religious extremism as major contributing factors to the persistence of insurgency. The research concludes that healthcare service delivery in Jere LGA has been severely compromised due to insurgency, and recommends improved security surveillance, strengthened infrastructure, recruitment of qualified personnel, and the establishment of mobile clinics to enhance access to healthcare services during conflict situations.
