THE EFFECT OF CHANGING RAINFALL PATTERN ON SWIMMING POOL PATRONAGE AMONG HOTELIERS IN PORTHARCOURT
Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effect of changing rainfall patterns on swimming pool patronage
among hoteliers in Portharcourt, Nigeria. A survey was conducted among 50 hoteliers, using a
structured questionnaire, to collect data on the changes in rainfall patterns and their effect on
swimming pool usage. The results showed that there has been a significant change in the rainfall
pattern in recent years, which has affected the frequency of swimming pool usage among hotel
guests. Specifically, the hoteliers reported a decline in the number of swimming pool patrons during
the rainy season, which they attributed to increased rainfall intensity and duration. Furthermore, the
study found that hoteliers have had to implement strategies such as covering the swimming pool
area or offering alternative indoor activities to retain customers during the rainy season. The study
concludes that changing rainfall patterns have had a significant impact on swimming pool patronage
among hoteliers in Portharcourt, highlighting the need for more sustainable and adaptive strategies
to manage outdoor facilities in the face of changing weather patterns.
