INFLUENCE OF NATIONAL NEWSPAPERS AND EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS IN INFANT JESUS MODEL SECONDARY SCHOOL IN ORON LOCAL GOVERNMENT

ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to investigate National newspapers and educational development of students in Infant Jesus Model Secondary School in Oron Local Government. Survey research method was used, the population consisted of male and female students in Infant Jesus Model Secondary School in Oron Local Government and Questionnaire was the instrument used for the collection of data for the study, with the help of simple percentages, which was chosen to represent respondents, and the highest percentage was taken. A simple random sampling technique was used in selecting four hundred (400) respondents from the population. Findings revealed that the high cost of newspapers is a major debilitating factor to newspapers readership hence the gravitation towards online newspaper readership. The study therefore concludes that based on the findings of this study, newspaper has contributed to the educational development of students in Oron Local Government Area. It also recommended that teachers in Infant Jesus Model Secondary School in Oron Local government Area should encourage students to utilize their cell phones to read newspaper online and parent should encourage their children to read newspaper by providing them with additional money to buy newspapers
