DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A THRIFT COLLECTION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (E-OSUSU)
Abstract
Osusu, or traditional savings organizations, offer a thrift collective financial structure in which members make contributions and withdrawals according to a set schedule. However, managing these contributions manually often results in inefficiencies, a lack of transparency among members, and difficulties in tracking transactions. This has necessitated the design and development of thrift collection management (E-Osusu),, a web-based thrift collection management aimed at digitizing traditional group savings procedures. The thrift collection management (E-Osusu), system was developed using Laravel for backend functionality, MySQL for database management, and JavaScript, HTML, and CSS for frontend development, all hosted locally using XAMPP during the development phase. The system was designed to meet specific aims and objectives, including creating a simple and secure dashboard for managing savings groups, improving record-keeping and contribution tracking, sending real-time updates on contributions and withdrawals, enforcing role-based access control for financial security, providing an intuitive interface for administrators, and maintaining transparent transaction records. By achieving these goals, thrift collection management (E-Osusu), will modernize traditional savings methods, promote transparency, enhance efficiency, and reduce the risk of misunderstandings and fund mismanagement within savings groups.
