A HISTORY OF ABA-EDUN IN EGBEDA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF OYO STATE UP TO 2025.

This work discussed the history of Aba-Edun in Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State upto 2025. Aba-Edun is one of the most Yoruba important towns with unique tradition of origin, and culture but has received little or no attention from historians and scholars, thereby creating gap in the present knowledge. It is on this note that this study was embarked upon to bridge the gap in the present knowledge. This study examines the nature of the land and the people of Aba-Edun, analysed the early history of Aba-Edun, discussed the traditional economic, political and socio-cultural institution, and the nature of religion and festivals of the town, examines the various developments in the town since its emergence and lastly assessed the level of change and continuity in the traditional practices of Aba-Edun. This study adopted history method which comprises of primary and secondary sources of information. The researchers embarked on fieldtrip to the town and carefully collected data relating to the town. Data collected were carefully analysed and interpreted to avoid human prejudices and for objectivity. Secondary source materials such as; textbooks, journal articles, long essays/thesis/dissertations, as well as internet materials were also used to complement the primary sources. The study is divided into four main chapters; Chapter one provided introduction to the study, while Chapter two examined the traditions of origin, Chapter three discussed the developments in Aba-Edun, while Chapter four examined change and continuity in the town before drawing conclusion. This study revealed that, Aba-Edun was founded by a twin named Taiwo and Kehinde who migrated from Aba-Edun in Ofa-ile, Kwara State many years ago. Having established the town; its inhabitants were identified with certain unique culture and traditions which formed their identity such as hunting, Oro, and Egungun Festival among others. Although, there were developments introduced by the colonial masters and the exposure of the people to western civilization and modernization, the town continued to maintain its traditions and culture despite the changes that have influenced most of its traditional practices.
